This year, the event will no longer be held at that scenic place, however, whereever it is, the Nice Jazz festival is back & this years week long ‘jazz picnics’ will play host to a variety of unmissable international music stars.

The exact 2011 line up for the Nice Jazz festival is still under contruction – watch this space for regular updates! We can disclose that, following falling attendance, a trend that the mayor blamed on the rising cost of tickets, the principle sites will be the arena in the Albert 1er gardens with a capacity of 3,000 and the gardens next to Place Massena itself which can accommodate 6,500. This means that with more people, the cost of the tickets can be lowered – good news for all!

The location is the Promenade des Anglais and the course opens at 9.30am on a Sunday morning. The course is laid out over 2.5km and is open to all.

You can expect to see family entertainment with skating Disney characters and freestyle skating demonstrations by the experts.

There is also racing scheduled for the French national cup with practice sessions in the morning and racing from 11.30 until 12.30.

The event is organised by ‘Nice Roller Attitude’ and is designed to open up the world of roller skating to all and sundry. A fun event to get involved with or to just watch the antics and acrobatics in the sunshine on Nice’s famous Promenade des Anglais.

The carnival processions, comprising 20 floats telling the story of the “Blue Planet” work their way up to a crescendo of gigantic decorations on the Place Masséna. These giant, colourful parades take place day and night, with entertainment provided by over 1,000 musicians and dancers from across the world.

In a unique setting, on the Promenade des Anglais, the elegant “flower battles” are part of the carnival not to be missed. On floats decorated with the most stunning floral compositions, extravagantly dressed characters throw out mimosas, gerberas, and lilies into the public …

For over 15 days, the city hums to the rhythm of this genuine, fairy-tale event … get a passport for the celebration and let the magic do its work … come and forget the dullness of winter and take in the sun on the French Riviera!

Set in the vast Jardins de Cimiez, the event features several separate stages where groups perform simultaneously each evening, for 12 days in July. The atmosphere is cross between a Gallic Woodstock and a musical fair: families arrive en masse to enjoy the festivals & a picnic under the century-old olives trees eating socca (delicious savoury pancake made from chickpea flour), and sandwiches. At the other end of the park is a dramatic 4000-seat arena – a Roman amphitheatre, built in the 3rd century BC, which once featured javelin-throwing gladiators.

The most important event on the French Riviera, for its 124th edition will be «King of Masquerades », from 13th February to 1st March.

The theme for 2009 evokes the art of concealment in every sense : wearing a mask, changing one’s appearance, staging, in short the art of deception. From a simple disguise to plastic surgery, from manipulation to celebrity press & the Carnival is no longer the only realm of fancy dress and device in all its forms, represented in a modern and outrageous fantasy…

Cartoonists from the most important international newspapers, privileged witnesses of their time and their culture, have once again been approached to create the visual identity of a modern carnival & whilst respecting tradition. All the Carnival parades will be located on the new place Massena and around the garden Albert 1st and the Flower parades will take place along the Promenade des Anglais or sea-front and will feature numerous innovations …
