What is The Côte d’Azur?

The Côte d’Azur, also known in English as the French Riviera, is the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France, also including well-known places such as the sovereign state of Monaco, Nice and St.Tropez. There is no official boundary, but it is usually considered to extend from either Menton in the east(which is almost on the border with Italy) to Saint Tropez, Hyères or Cassis in the west.

The Name of Côte d’Azur was given to the coast by the French writer Stéphen Liégeard in his book, La Côte d’azur, published in December 1887. Stéphen Liégeard was born in Dijon, in the French department of Côte-d’Or, and adapted that name by substituting the azure blue colour of the Mediterranean for the gold of Côte-d’Or.

CCTV systems are installed all over Nice to deter street crime find an new use

When a Nice council decided to locate CCTV cameras around Nice some residents were delighted, especially as its declared purpose was to make the streets safer from drug dealers, muggers, burglars and car thieves

The camera proved not very good at identifying suspects lurking in the shadows but it was very good at reading residents’ car number plates.

Head Prosecutor for Nice, Eric de Montgolfier, has now authorised automatically sending fines for parking offenses caught on camera.

The scheme started on 1st November in Avenue de Verdun, Boulevard Carlone, and Boulevard Gambetta, nothing has been confirmed yet but i guess that as the number of CCTV cameras expands, we can expect the same from the scheme.

New flights Nice to Barcelona from 28th March 2011

Spanair (Spanish airline) has announced that will be running a new route Nice to Barcelona, starting March 28th.

The fights will be twice a week to start (Mondays and Thursdays).

Nice Jazz Festival 2011 changes venue

Due to the poor attendance to the Nice Jazz festival last year, Nice’s mayor Christian Estrosi has declared the Nice Jazz festival will move the historic site of Cimiez to Albert 1er gardens with a capacity of 3,000 and the gardens next to Place Massena which can accommodate 6,500.
