The most obvious option is to make the most of the beaches. Nice’s public beaches are truly stunning, although often a little pebbly. The seafront can also usually accessed by foot, meaning you’ll save money on travel expenses. If you’re looking for a sunshine-soaked vacation, then spending your days on Nice’s beaches can be the perfect solution. Aside from a bottle of suntan lotion and an ice-cream or two, it won’t cost you a penny.

In general, in Nice the roads are quite good, with exception of some mountain roads, where the gas station can as well be quite far from each other, but nothing to worry if we make a good trip planning.

The Name of Côte d’Azur was given to the coast by the French writer Stéphen Liégeard in his book, La Côte d’azur, published in December 1887. It takes a bit of thought to get the best from the Nice beaches both public and private. The biggest hurdle to overcome is the pebbles.

At approximately equal intervals along this coastline there are about 15 private beaches separated by the public beaches. You are allowed to walk along the length of the bay including the private beaches if you remain close to the sea.

Choose between 15 private beaches, all attractive and comfortable, and the well-kept public beaches, wide open and free for all. If you are looking for a sandy beach – probably the finest Cote d’Azur has to offer – then Antibes, Juan les Pins and our favourite Villefranche sur Mer.
Villefranche sur Mer is one of the best undiscovered French beaches, just a few minutes away from Nice, this sandy beach is quieter and less jam-packed with tourists than its more high-profile neighbor. There is only a handful of cafes and shops here, but sunbathing is much more pleasant. Beautiful mansions loom overhead, and there is a delightful market here. You can always hop the train and be in Nice (for shopping and so on) in five minutes.
