A magnificent 17th century Genoese villa with a trompe-l’oeil painted façade is devoted principally to the works of Henri Matisse (1889-1954). Architecture and the evolution in the work of this celebrate painter may be followed, from his very first practice sketches to the famous découpé gouaches from towards the end of his life. A unique collection of drawings, engravings, all the books illustrated by Matisse, preliminary paintings, virtually all his sculptures and a great many photos all of which provide us with a better understanding of this painter. This museum contains over 236 drawings and 238 engravings.
Open from April 1st to September 30th , from 11 am to 7 pm; and from October 1st to March 31st , from 10 am to 5 pm.
